Preview Links

Preview links let you share a live version of your course with anyone, no LMS required. Use them to get quick feedback from stakeholders, share work-in-progress with clients, or review your course on a different device.

Creating a preview link

Open your course in the Slate Builder
Click Publish in the toolbar
Select Preview Link
Click Create Link to generate a shareable URL
Copy the link and send it to anyone

You can also give each link a custom name (e.g., “Client Review - March”) to keep track of what each link is for.

Managing preview links

From the preview link panel, you can:

Copy the link URL to your clipboard
Open the preview in a new tab
Show QR code to display a scannable code with copy and download options
Rename a link for easier identification
Publish changes to a link when your course has updates
Delete links you no longer need

Each link shows when it was created and whether the course content has changed since the link was generated.

Content freshness

Preview links contain a snapshot of your course at the time the link was created. When you make changes to the course, each affected link is flagged Out of date along with the time since the course was last changed. Click Publish changes on the link to refresh it with the latest content.

When two or more links on the same course are out of date, a Publish to all action appears at the top of the link list so you can refresh every stale link in one click instead of updating them one by one.

Branding

Preview links display a “Built with Slate” banner at the top of the course. Pro subscribers can share previews without Slate branding.

QR codes

Each preview link in the Share Dialog has a QR Code button next to Copy and Open. Click it to display a scannable code that opens the link, along with options to Copy image or Download PNG. The downloaded image is high resolution and works well in print materials, slide decks, classroom handouts, and signage.

Anyone who scans the code with a phone camera will be taken straight to your preview.

QR codes require a Standard or Pro plan.
