Account Setup

Get started by creating a free Slate account at app.slatebuilder.io.

  1. Go to app.slatebuilder.io and click Sign Up
  2. Sign up with your Google account, or enter your name, email, and a password (6 characters minimum)
  3. You’re taken to the dashboard, ready to create your first course

Free accounts include up to 5 courses and 1,500 AI credits per month. You can upgrade to a Standard or Pro plan at any time from your account settings.

Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links are available from the sign-in and sign-up pages.

When you first sign in, Slate opens a short welcome dialog with two steps: a brief welcome, then a single step where you choose how to start your first course. You can leave at any point using Skip for now in the top-right corner.

A short greeting with your name and a Get started button. A light/dark toggle sits in the top bar so you can set your preferred appearance right away. You can switch themes later, including a system option, from Settings.

If you arrived through a referral invitation, your welcome bonus is shown here too.

Choose how to build your first course:

  • Generate with AI (recommended) - describe your course and let AI build a full draft for you. Costs 1,250 AI credits, comfortably inside the 1,500 credits new accounts get each month.
  • Start from scratch - create a blank course and build it yourself.

An AI features switch sits above the options. It is the same switch found in Settings: turning it off hides every AI feature across Slate, including the Generate with AI path, so only Start from scratch remains. Turning it back on restores the AI path. See Turning AI off.

Two smaller controls sit under the cards:

  • Language - “You’ll create in English · Change” lets you switch the language your course content is created in before you begin. The default is English.
  • See how credits work - expands a breakdown of per-action AI credit costs. Shown only when AI features are on.

Importing a course is not offered in the welcome dialog, but it is always available from the dashboard. See Creating Your First Course and Import Courses.

Once you pick a path, Slate marks onboarding complete and takes you into that flow. If you skip, the dashboard empty state keeps the same options one click away: a “Your blank slate awaits.” headline, a Generate with AI button, and quiet links to import a course or start from scratch.

You can always create more courses later using any method, and you can set up your brand, colours, logo, and fonts at any time from a course’s Theme page.

Access your profile settings from the user menu in the top-right corner of the dashboard.

  • Display name - your name, shown on the dashboard and in review comments
  • Role - your professional role (optional)
  • Password - change your password (requires your current password)
  • Default source language - your preferred language for new courses produced by Slate. AI Chat and AI-generated lessons default to this language, and new courses start with this as their source. Pick from 15 supported languages. Change it any time. The Slate authoring interface itself is currently available in English only; this setting controls the language of course content, not the Slate UI.
  • Slate AI - save Course context and Image prompt preferences that apply automatically across AI features (Standard and Pro plans), and turn AI off entirely with a single switch

You can permanently delete your account from Settings > Profile. Click Delete account, review the warning, and type DELETE to confirm.

Before deletion, Slate asks you to resolve anything that needs attention first, such as an active subscription or a team workspace where you are the owner. Once deletion completes, your account, courses, lessons, uploaded media, saved templates, themes, comments, reviews, and shared links are removed.

Manage your subscription from Settings in the user menu.

If you have a promotion code, you can apply it before checking out. From Settings > Subscription, click Have a promotion code? above the plan cards, enter your code, and click Apply. The plan card updates to show the discounted price (with the original price struck through) and how long the discount runs. Click Subscribe on the chosen plan and the discount carries through to checkout automatically.

Codes can be tier-specific (a Pro-only code only discounts the Pro card) or restricted by currency, billing cycle, or new-customer status. If a code doesn’t apply, the page explains why so you can adjust the plan, billing cycle, or currency and try again.
