Slate for Rise

Slate for Rise is a free Chrome extension that lets you apply custom CSS and JavaScript to Articulate Rise courses. It was our first product, built specifically for instructional designers who need more control over Rise’s look and behavior.

Slate for Rise is a standalone product - it is not part of the Slate Builder platform and does not require a Slate account.

What it does

Slate for Rise intercepts Rise course exports and injects your custom CSS and JavaScript into the published package. This gives you course-wide styling control that goes beyond what Rise’s built-in code blocks offer.

Key features

  • CSS & JavaScript editors - write custom code with syntax highlighting and auto-save
  • Live CSS preview - see style changes in real time in the Rise editor and preview modes
  • Automatic course patching - custom code is applied automatically when you export from Rise
  • Copy block IDs & selectors - target specific Rise blocks with precision
  • Custom classes - add custom CSS classes to any Rise block
  • View block structure - inspect the HTML structure of any block
  • Bulk patching - apply customizations to up to 10 exported packages at once
  • All export formats - works with SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI, AICC, cmi5, and Web

Bonus tools

The extension includes five additional tools that all run locally on your device:

  • Image compressor - reduce image file sizes with a quality slider (up to 10 images at once)
  • SVG editor - recolor and resize vector graphics
  • Subtitle converter - convert between SRT and VTT subtitle formats
  • Color palettes - create and manage brand color palettes with export/import
  • Community resources - access shared templates and resources

AI code assistant

Slate for Rise includes a free, local AI code assistant powered by Meta Llama 3.2. The model runs entirely in your browser using WebGPU - no API keys, no internet connection required after the initial download, and your code never leaves your device.

  • Generate - describe what you need and get CSS or JavaScript code
  • Explain - understand what a code snippet does
  • Optimize - get suggestions to improve your code

Privacy

Everything runs locally on your device. There is no account, no tracking, no data collection, and no code sent to external servers. The extension is designed to be enterprise-friendly.

Install

Slate for Rise is available for free on the Chrome Web Store.

No registration or setup required. Install and start customizing immediately.

How it works

  1. Install the Slate for Rise Chrome extension
  2. Add your custom CSS and JavaScript in the built-in editors
  3. Export your Rise course to any format - your customizations are applied automatically
