Video Providers

Slate’s Video block supports embedding videos from multiple providers as well as direct uploads, giving you flexibility in how you deliver video content to learners.

ProviderHow it works
YouTubePaste a YouTube video URL
VimeoPaste a Vimeo video URL
Google DrivePaste a Google Drive video sharing link
SynthesiaPaste a Synthesia share link
LoomPaste a Loom share or embed link
Video URLPaste a direct link to any MP4 or WebM file
UploadUpload a video file from your computer
  1. Add a Video block to your lesson
  2. Select the video source from the provider dropdown
  3. Paste the video URL or upload a file
  4. The video preview appears in the editor

Slate automatically detects the video ID from the URL and generates the correct embed.

Requires a Pro plan.

Select Upload as the video source to upload a video file directly:

  • Supported formats: MP4, WebM
  • Maximum file size: 250 MB

Uploaded videos are stored in your media library and included in all export packages.

Paste any standard YouTube URL (watch page, shortened youtu.be link, or embed URL). Slate extracts the video ID automatically.

Paste any Vimeo video URL. The video plays using Vimeo’s embedded player.

Paste the sharing link for a video stored in Google Drive. The video must have sharing permissions set so your learners can access it.

Paste the share link from Synthesia. This is useful for AI-generated presenter videos.

Paste a Loom share or embed link. The video plays using Loom’s embedded player.

For uploaded videos, you can add subtitle files for accessibility:

  1. Upload a video using the Upload source
  2. In the Video block editor, look for the transcript upload option
  3. Upload an SRT or VTT file (up to 1 MB)
  4. The subtitles display over the video during playback

SRT files are automatically converted to VTT format.

Subtitles are only available for uploaded videos. For embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, etc.), subtitles are managed at the source platform.

  • Uploaded videos are included in the export package and play offline
  • Embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Synthesia, Google Drive) require an internet connection to play in the exported course
  • Video URL references play as long as the URL is accessible

When choosing a video source, consider whether your learners will have internet access when taking the course. For offline or LMS-hosted environments, uploaded videos are the most reliable option.
