Claude Desktop

Connect the Slate MCP Connector to Claude Desktop to create and manage courses through conversation.

Click your profile icon in Claude Desktop, then select Settings.

Select Connectors from the settings menu, then click Add custom connector.

Enter Slate as the name and use this URL:

https://mcp.slatebuilder.io/mcp

When you first ask Claude to use Slate, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your Slate account. You only need to do this once.

After authorizing, try asking Claude:

“Check my Slate credit balance”

If everything is connected, Claude will use the check_credits tool and report your current balance.

Once connected, you can start building:

  • “Create a 30-minute onboarding course for new hires”
  • “List all my courses tagged with compliance”
  • “Preview the outline for a cybersecurity awareness course”
  • “How many open reviews do I have?”
  • “Create a tracked link for my Sales Training course”

When Claude first connects to Slate, you’ll see a permissions screen listing all available tools in two categories:

  • Read-only tools - safe to allow automatically (checking credits, listing courses, etc.)
  • Write tools - you can choose to allow automatically or require approval each time (creating courses, managing links, etc.)

You can change these settings anytime from Claude Desktop’s connector preferences.

Claude doesn’t show Slate tools - make sure the connector URL is exactly https://mcp.slatebuilder.io/mcp with no trailing slash or extra characters.

Authorization fails - check that your Slate account has an active Standard or Pro subscription.

Tools return errors - you may have hit a rate limit. Ask Claude to check your credits or try again in a minute. See Usage & Limits for rate limit details.
