HTML Export
HTML export creates a self-contained package of your course that can be hosted on any web server or opened locally without an internet connection. No LMS or tracking infrastructure is required.
When to use HTML export
Section titled “When to use HTML export”- Web hosting - publish courses on your own website or intranet
- Offline distribution - share courses via USB, file share, or download link
- Quick previews - send a working course to stakeholders for review
- Environments without an LMS - deliver training where no learning management system is available
What’s included
Section titled “What’s included”The HTML export package contains:
index.html- the course entry pointcourse.json- course content and structureplayer.js- the course playerstyles.css- player stylesmedia/- all bundled images and downloadable media
YouTube and Vimeo videos remain as external embeds and require an internet connection to play.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- No tracking - HTML exports do not report completion, scores, or progress. If you need tracking, use SCORM, xAPI, or cmi5.
- No bookmarking - learner progress is not saved between sessions.
- External video requires internet - embedded YouTube and Vimeo videos won’t play offline.
Hosting the export
Section titled “Hosting the export”- Export your course as HTML from Slate
- Extract the
.zipfile - Upload the contents to any web server or static hosting provider
- Share the URL to
index.htmlwith your learners
The exported course can also be opened directly from the file system (file://) for local viewing without a server.
