Sections

Sections are the top-level organizational unit in a Slate course. Think of them as chapters that group related lessons into logical segments of your learning experience.

  1. In Course Overview, click Add Section
  2. A new section is created with the title “Untitled Section”
  3. Click the title to rename it
  4. Add lessons inside the section

You can create as many sections as you need. Every course must have at least one section.

Use the up and down arrow buttons on a section header to change its position in the course. Sections are displayed in the order you arrange them, and learners navigate through them in that same order.

Click directly on the section title to edit it inline. Press Enter to confirm or Escape to cancel.

Open the section’s more options menu and select Delete. You cannot delete the last remaining section in a course, so there must always be at least two sections before deletion is available.

Deleting a section also removes all lessons and blocks inside it.

Slate has two types of sections:

  • Content sections - standard sections that can contain any of the 18 block types
  • Assessment sections - special sections restricted to Text, Image, and Knowledge Check blocks, with built-in scoring

Each course can have at most one assessment section. It is always positioned at the end of the course. See Assessment Sections for details.

In the published course, sections appear in the navigation sidebar. Learners can expand each section to see its lessons and navigate between them. The sidebar shows completion progress for each section.
