Assessment Sections
Assessment sections are special sections designed specifically for testing. They support scoring, pass/fail thresholds, attempt limits, and can report results to your LMS.
How assessment sections differ
Section titled “How assessment sections differ”Unlike regular content sections, assessment sections have specific constraints that keep learners focused on the test:
| Feature | Content section | Assessment section |
|---|---|---|
| Allowed block types | All 18 block types | Text, Image, and Knowledge Check only |
| Scoring | No scoring | Questions scored automatically |
| Attempt limits | Not applicable | Configurable (1 to unlimited) |
| LMS reporting | Completion only | Score and pass/fail status |
Each course can have one assessment section. It appears at the end of the course structure.
Creating an assessment section
Section titled “Creating an assessment section”- In Course Overview, click Add Assessment
- The assessment section is created with a default title
- Add lessons to the section, then add knowledge check blocks to those lessons
- Click Configure Assessment to set passing scores and attempt limits
Adding questions
Section titled “Adding questions”Inside an assessment section, you can add three block types:
- Text - for instructions, context, or scenario descriptions
- Image - for visual aids, diagrams, or scenario images
- Knowledge Check - the scored questions themselves
Only knowledge check blocks count toward the assessment score. Text and image blocks provide context but don’t affect scoring.
Configuring the assessment
Section titled “Configuring the assessment”Click Configure Assessment on the assessment section header to open the settings dialog. You can configure:
- Passing score - set as a percentage (e.g., 70%) or a question count (e.g., 5 of 10 correct)
- Maximum attempts - limit how many times learners can retake the assessment (set to 0 for unlimited)
- Randomize question order - shuffle questions each attempt so learners see them in a different order
- Show feedback - display correct/incorrect feedback after each question
- Show results - display a final results screen with the learner’s score after completion
Default settings
Section titled “Default settings”| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Passing score | 70% |
| Maximum attempts | 3 |
| Randomize questions | Off |
| Show feedback | On |
| Show results | On |
Deleting an assessment section
Section titled “Deleting an assessment section”Deleting an assessment section removes the section and all its questions permanently. A confirmation dialog ensures you don’t delete it accidentally.
