AI Course Generation

Slate’s AI course generation creates a full course structure from a conversation. Describe what you want to teach, and Slate builds sections, lessons, and content blocks for you.

Course generation uses a chat-based interface. You describe your course topic, and Slate’s AI asks clarifying questions before generating the content. The process is collaborative, not a single prompt-and-go step.

  1. Open the course generation dialog from the dashboard
  2. Describe your course topic
  3. The AI may ask follow-up questions about scope, audience, or objectives
  4. Review the proposed outline
  5. Slate generates the full course with sections, lessons, and blocks

During the conversation, Slate considers several parameters to shape your course:

  • Topic - the subject matter of the course
  • Audience - who the course is designed for
  • Duration - approximate length of the learning experience
  • Objectives - what learners should know or be able to do after completing the course
  • Tone - the voice and style of the content (professional, conversational, academic, etc.)

You don’t need to specify all of these upfront. The AI will ask about any it needs to generate a strong course.

You can upload documents to guide the generation. Slate uses the content from your files to create more accurate, relevant course material.

Supported file types:

  • PDF
  • PowerPoint (PPTX)
  • Word (DOCX)
  • Plain text (TXT)
  • Markdown (MD)

Upload source material when you have existing content (training manuals, slide decks, reference docs) that should inform the course. The AI extracts key concepts and structures the course around them.

A generated course includes:

  • Sections organized by topic area
  • Lessons within each section
  • Content blocks (text, images, knowledge checks) within each lesson
  • A logical flow from introduction through to assessment

After generation, the course is fully editable. You can rearrange, rewrite, add, or remove any part of the generated content.

Each course generation costs 1,250 AI credits. Credits are deducted when the course is generated, not during the conversation phase.
